I had heard about Mr. Yu Guang, a renowned Feng Shui master, for quite a long time but did not have a chance to meet with and learn from him due to his low-key practice to the public. Recently, having learned that he is in charge of the Feng Shui design for the University of Massachusetts Biomedical Center and will start designing Feng Shui for the heavily invested Dong-Yun Pavilion in New York City, I finally met Master Yu through the friend of a friend. During our long conversations, I had a taste of the profound and splendid theories of Feng Shui that have benefited me a great deal.
As an accomplished scientist, I used to be rather conceited and blindly reject things that I did not understand. I paid most of my attention to natural sciences while completely ignoring Buddhism, theology, and Feng Shui; my attitudes towards them were of prejudice and fear. I thought that they were useless to my work and research. Looking back at what I experienced, I found that I had a lot of confusion and misunderstanding in my life and work, that my mind became narrow and rigid, and that I suffered increasingly more setbacks. I was often thrown off balance when facing people and circumstances, either agreeing with or rejecting them all. Eventually, I had the chance to learn about Feng Shui, a knowledge that has lifetime benefits . As Master Yu emphasized, the essence of Feng Shui is to understand Nature, to fit into Nature, to re-mold Nature for human’s advantage, and ultimately to adapt oneself into perfect harmony with all the circumstances. He asked, “How could a happy life and a harmonious realm be achieved without pursuing profound knowledge and rich experiences?” Master Yu indicated that the highest realm of Feng Shui is the harmonious unity of “the heaven, the earth and the human.”
Traditionally, theories of Feng Shui were mainly applied to start construction, build houses, select gravesites, pitch camps, and exorcise evil spirits, etc. Nowadays, ordinary people pay more and more attention to Feng Shui design as well. The sister of a friend of mine once complained that her Feng Shui was worsen, resulting in a heavy heart, less sleep, and poor health… Guided by a Feng Shui master with a thorough analysis of her predestined characters, she reorganized her indoor furniture in the master bedroom, restrooms and the kitchen in accordance with the Feng Shui principles so that her state of mind has become calm and peaceful while her health has been significantly improved. That is just one sample of how Feng Shui can modify and improve our lives. In addition, use of special functions of magnet field/anti-magnet field and crystal has been applied more in daily life since more electronic devices have been used and the resulted magnet fields adversely influence human health. Master Yu revealed that Feng Shui design could adjust and modify the concerned magnet field, anti-magnet field, potential and energy, etc. through rearrange influential factors such as geography, position, and furniture.
According to the difference of applications to the living and the dead, theories of Feng Shui are usually be categorized as Yang Chai Feng Shui (for residence houses of the living) or Yin Chai Feng Shui (for gravesites or dark houses of the dead). Of course, Yang Chai Feng Shui can influence people’s mindset and work environment, which has been integrated into interior design and decoration, etc. On the other hand, Yin Chai Feng Shui can influence not only the dead but also the living relatives and the future generations as well as their mindset, work and fortune.
As mentioned before, there are profound scientific principles behind theories of Feng Shui. The main stream Feng Shui theories can be presented in three different aspects: in applicable aspect it contains cumulative and summarized human experience in architecture; in scientific aspect it includes fundamental knowledge of many natural sciences; and in philosophical aspect it integrates principles and concepts of Yi Ching – an ancient Chinese philosophy. All the three aspects are closely and complexly related, so some people call these a sort of metaphysics. Some other people simply call Feng Shui as Yi applications to architecture, but that is neither appropriate nor necessary. Despite of their similarities, the applications of Feng Shui theories to architecture are not the same as that of Yi theories.
Many see Feng Shui as a mystery of mysteries because few understand it. However, we should not ignore it or give up learning opportunities just because we don’t understand. Master Yu has successfully combined the Feng Shui secrets handed down in his family from generation to generation with modern Feng Shui theories and applied them to help people select suitable dates, exorcise evil spirits, modify predestined fortune, diminish complex illness, and solve complicated problems, etc. through repositioning residential houses, business buildings, restaurants, shops, and offices using special crystal or jade devices. We can definitely be benefited by Master Yu’s consummate expertise and excellent services. |
